Questions people ask
- Can you add a socket without a new circuit?
- Usually, yes. A new socket can come off an existing circuit, provided the wiring is in good condition and compliant. If the socket is for something that draws a lot of power, it needs a circuit of its own. I will check this before I quote.
- Are extension leads a problem?
- Plugging leads into each other, or running heaters and kettles from one, can overload them and make them hot. If a room only works with extension leads, it needs more sockets.
- Do I need smoke alarms?
- If you own and live in the property, you aren't legally required, although it is highly recommended for you and your family's safety. New builds and some building work will require them under the building regulations. Mains alarms are wired in and linked together, so when one goes off, they all do.
- Is a wired connection better than wifi?
- For a home office, a TV or a games console, usually. A network cable gives a steadier, faster connection than wifi through walls. I run it to the rooms you choose.
